Background and history
The University of Auckland Society is a unique group of alumni and friends of The University of Auckland. Society members are advocates of the University who are actively engaged in furthering its best interests. This includes supporting student initiatives such as Exposure and the Blues Awards.
Members pay an annual levy and in return receive unique Society benefits.
Our history
The University of Auckland Society (formally known as The Alumni Association) was formed in 1989 “to promote the best interests of the University” and to foster support for it.
The Society pioneered a number of initiatives that have become integral to University life, including:
- Establishing the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards programme in 1996 which honours up to 5 outstanding alumni each year.
- Running the Graduation Concert.
- Donating $100,000 to the University’s Partnership Appeal.
- Running the Alumni Scholarships for students in financial need.
In 2003, the Association changed its name to The University of Auckland Society.
