Vicky Wong - BA
Vicky was awarded a BA in French and Italian in September 2004.
She is currently based in New York, working as an art handler for a company that specialises in the niche market of fine-art packing and global transportation. They deal with high-end antiquities, original Impressionist works, and entertainment memorabilia.
Vicky's work primarily involves scheduling jobs and overseeing outgoing shipments. Because her job is so fast-paced, it requires her to reconcile the ubiquitous demands of their clients to what is logistically possible in the daily operations of the office.
Studying at The University of Auckland helped equip Vicky with the skill set necessary to do her job successfully. A tertiary qualification, knowledge of business studies, the ability to communicate with non-English-speaking international clients in a global marketplace, and the social skills she developed whilst at university proved the invaluable factors in her employer's decision to sponsor her American work visa and facilitate her relocation to North America.
"Tertiary studies and life on campus were great in many ways - forming key social networks for the future, adapting to a largely independent lifestyle, and developing the intellectual dexterity critical to performing complex job functions."
Vicky lives in Manhattan, where there are endless ways to pass one's free time: she likes walking around the city and through Central Park, shopping in Soho, eating in Chinatown, Little Italy, and Little Brazil, viewing art galleries and museums, and checking out jazz.
