Sean McGonigle - LLB, LLM
Sean graduated with LLB (Hons) in 1996 and was also awarded a Senior Prize in Law, writing his honours dissertation on the police prosecution system.
His interest in criminal law continued with a stint as a prosecutor for the New Zealand Customs Service. He subsequently worked in Hamilton as Judge's Clerk at the High Court.
Since 1998, Sean has worked with Singapore Airlines, assigned various roles in International Relations, Legal and Marketing. His areas of expertise in the international relations and government affairs role include international air services agreements, traffic rights allocation methods and rules regarding the carriage of passengers with reduced mobility.
Sean was reassigned to the Legal department following the completion of his Masters in Law from the Institute of Air and Space Law at McGill University, Montreal. During this assignment, he worked with external counsel developing a competition law compliance programme for the airline following Singapore's introduction of a competition law in 2004. He subsequently prepared and delivered in-house training for all business units.
Rotated to the Marketing department in 2007, Sean was posted to Perth as Manager Western Australia, overseeing all aspects of the airline's commercial operations. This included managing over 40 staff handling three daily flights and responsible for generating more that AUD100m in annual revenue.
Sean has recently returned to Singapore head office for a further period with the Legal department, handling a wide range of aviation-related legal issues.
