Rushan Sinnaduray - BTheol, MTheol
Rushan originally began his studies in engineering, then moved on to music before discovering a passion for theology. He was awarded a Bachelor of Theology in 2000 and a Master of Theology in 2002.
After switching to theology Rushan spent most of his time at St Johns College and Tamaki Campus. While studying and after he graduated, he worked for a Methodist Church in Auckland as their youth director.
In 2003 Rushan took up a position in Prince Edward Island in Canada he had found advertised on the Internet. In 2005 he moved to Exeter New Hampshire to take up another position. Rushan notes that for this position "one of the things that helped swing the decision in my favour (out of 50 applicants) was the reputation that The University of Auckland seems to have in this part of the world".
Rushan believes that a large part of why he continued to study theology during his time at The University of Auckland was because of the high quality lecturers and University staff. Some that made a lasting impression on him include Rev Dr Philip Culbertson, Dr Anne Gilroy, and Rev Dr Mary Caygill. These lecturers "helped me appreciate and value knowledge and learning and questioning" he says.
Both Rushan's younger brother and sister are also graduates of The University of Auckland.
When he's not working Rushan enjoys opera and music in general, food, travel, reading and blogging.
Rushan is the alumni group co-ordinator for The University of Auckland in New Hampshire.
