Richard Yan - BA, BCom

Since arriving in New Zealand from Beijing in 1981, Richard Yan has played a leading role in enabling New Zealand and international companies to establish business links with China.

Since graduating with a BA and BCom in 1985, Richard has participated in a number of historic corporate financing deals, as well as more than 60 US and international leveraged buyouts.

Richard has since gained an MBA from Harvard and in 1991, a mere ten years after arriving in New Zealand, he was made a vice-president of Bankers' Trust Hong Kong. In 1992 he founded Richina Capital Partners Ltd, a venture which acquires technology for use in China through joint ventures with multi-nationals.

Richard received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 1996.
