Mauricio Guaragna - LLM

Mauricio graduated with an LLM in 2002 and is now working at a law firm and not-for-profit organisation in his home country of Brazil.

As a postgraduate international student at The University of Auckland, Mauricio was awarded an NZODA Scholarship, which enabled him to study a range of subjects including International Law, Environmental Law and Resource Management Law. Some of Mauricio’s favourite memories of his time in Auckland include social activities with other international students, the Shadows pub quiz and the overall campus atmosphere.

After graduating, Mauricio worked at an intellectual property law firm in Malaysia, followed by time spent in the US and Australia. In 2005, he began his PhD at the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute through the University of London, a qualification he is still studying towards.

Currently, Mauricio works at a law firm and at the Network for Open Scientific Innovation, a not-for-profit organisation directed at scientific, educational and charitable purposes. He and his team are conducting legal research to create a template license and best practice standard for Open Source licensing in biotechnology.

When he isn’t working, Mauricio enjoys playing soccer, going to the beach and listening to music.
