Sir Laurence Stevens - BCom

While gaining his BCom in 1949, Laurence was also an Auckland University College tennis representative from 1938-9 and 1946-7.

Laurence was successively Secretary, Manager and Managing Director of Auckland Knitting Mills, 1948-80 and was President of the New Zealand Manufacturers Association on two occasions, 1970-1 and 1981-3. Among his directorships were Lane Walker Rudkin, 1978-82, Reserve Bank, 1977-90, Wormald International (NZ), 1983-9,and Guardian Royal Exchange Assurance NZ, 1983-90. He was also chairman of the Auckland Agricultural, Pastoral and Industrial Shows Board.

Laurence was made CBE in 1979 and Knight Bachelor in 1983. He was also New Zealand Business Hall of Fame 1999 Laureate.

Laurence received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001.
