David Chung - BArch, PhD

David was awarded his Bachelor of Architecture in 1970.

He started university living in St. Stephen's Hall - "one of the best run student hostels with a manageress who [cooked] very well". He remembers that life at university was "very good".

David later joined other Architectural Institutes and developed an interest in construction law, and arbitration law and procedure. He studied Chinese law at the University of East Asia, and in 2000 gained a PhD in theology from Honolulu University.

David remembers the architectural profession enjoying healthy growth in Singapore throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s until the present. He started off working for the government in 1970, mostly in the area of public housing. In the mid-70s he joined the private sector in preparation for setting up his own practice in 1977.

David undertook many commissions on different kinds of buildings: industrial, residential, commercial, places of worship, institutions, and associations. He found this was a very satisfying time in his career.

David is currently working on writing books to help people who need knowledge and education in his profession, and in life in general.

Some of David's out-of-office interests are reading, photography, fine arts, and research.
