Anna Soutar - BA, MPhil, PhD
Anna worked for the Audio Visual Centre at the School of Architecture for twenty years before she started studying for her Master of Philosophy in Architecture, which she was awarded in 1994.
Anna considers herself very fortunate to have been a part of the School of Architecture when its activities included those of a film school: computer animation, live theatre, film photography, and the close reading of buildings as film were part of its everyday work.
Anna has spent her years teaching and providing movie and media experiences in schools and universities, both in New Zealand and Great Britain.
She was grateful for the chance to do postgraduate study, which she said "extended my mind and, I believe my useful life, considerably". Anna fondly remembers several of her lecturers and co-post grads for the different ways in which they supported her.
Anna retired in 1997, and went on to complete her PhD in Architecture in 2003. She loves to absorb architecture and watch people watching in her spare time. Her son is also a University of Auckland alumnus, holding both a BA and an LLB.
