Allanah Johnston graduated with a BA in 1998 and a MCom (Hons) in 2000. She studied a wide range of subjects in her BA, majoring in Spanish and Organisation Studies and also majored in Organisation Studies for her MCom.

After graduating Allanah was offered a job lecturing part-time at the University in the Management and Employment Relations department at the Business School. She also did some consultancy work for an HR company before working on a research project for the University looking at Women in the Leadership programme for staff.

Following this Allanah began working as a careers advisor at The University of Auckland. She soon realised that her heart lay in research and teaching and in 2003 got a job as an associate lecturer at the University of Queensland in Australia

Allanah is now completing her PhD at the University of Queensland.

Allanah enjoyed her time studying at The University of Auckland and has fond memories of sitting in Albert Park drinking coffee and the pub crawls. She remembers how scary it was in first year trying to find her way round and navigate the 'system'.

Allanah thinks it is very important to be passionate or at least enjoy what you are studying, and believes "if you enjoy what you are studying the good marks will follow".

Quite a few lecturers from the University left a lasting impression on Allanah, including her supervisor in the Management and Employment Relations department Judith Pringle along with Myra Hird, John Deeks, Darl Kolb, Barbara Simpson, Ross Macdonald and David Barry.

Allanah loves living in Queensland and though she has been there for three years, is still finding new places to travel to and explore. In her spare time she also enjoys reading, live music and unwinding in the University of Queensland pool and gym.
